Teaching in Korea 1: Starting out

Hello, everyone.

So I travelled to South Korea not too long ago. I managed to settle in without any jet lag, so I’d like to give you a bit of an update so that you all know what’s going on. Honestly, I thought I took more photos, but it ended up not being a whole lot, somehow.

Hm...

Hm…

So I flew Korean Air, and it was probably one of the best experiences I had flying. It was 11 hours, but I’m an indoor hobbies person anyway, so I just took it in stride, did all of the things I normally would at home, and I beat three KH:DDD bosses. Haha!

But in all seriousness, the flight was pretty good. As a Canadian, I’ve most flown WestJet, the farthest distance being from Vancouver to Toronto. On that flight, you only get a snack and a drink, and pretty much anything else costs money.

However, on Korean Air, you get free meals, free wine (!), free headphones, and the in-flight entertainment is pretty darned good. Not only were there a ton of movies and music, they even had VIDEO GAMES in the entertainment console. Heck, they had Street FIghter on board, along with Tetris and Pacman. Seriously, why can’t Canadian airlines be like this?

WestJet and Air Canada: TAKE NOTES. This is how you need to do air travel.

The meals were actually pretty good for airplane food. I basically had rice and meat, which is what I eat for most of my meals at home anyway.

So overall, Korean Air gets a 10/10, would ride again. And apparently, ALL Asian airlines are like this (or so I hear, I have no idea.)

So I’m currently undergoing my teacher training, which entails how to create lesson plans, philosophies behind teaching, different approaches to teaching English in an EFL versus an ESL setting, differences between Western and Korean culture and Korean culture appreciation. I learned Taekwondo today (never thought I’d ever learn Taekwondo).

So overall, everything’s been quite good. Best of all, the orientation venue has filtered water, so I don’t need to worry about buying my own drinking water yet – I’ll have to start thinking about it when I get to the town (which is far from Seoul) that I’m actually going to be in.

So yeah. It’s basically been lectures, day in and day out. When I get out on the town a bit more as I get some more free time (there isn’t really too much of note in the area I’m currently in anyway), I’ll let y’all know. Or something.

Anyway, I’m going to go read some manga and lesson plan now. Until we meet again.
