Photoshoot: Hypnosis Mic (Matenrou Division)

I had the opportunity to shoot this series a few months back  last last year (yes, I procrastinated this blog entry for near 2 years!) and it introduced me to the world of Hypnosis Mic and a few new friends. I’m also excited to report that it was my 2nd Cosplay Photoshoot ever as a Photographer!

I’m super thankful to the Cosplayers for inviting me to this shoot even though I’m such a new photographer and I think I learnt a lot.

For the uninitiated, here is how Otakumode’s describes the franchise as below.

“Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- is a rap/song project and CD series launched by EVIL LINE RECORDS, a sub-label of King Records. In addition to its main cast of 12 voice actors, it features character design by Idea Factory and Otomate with scripts by Momose Yuichirou.
While idols both 3D and 2D are a familiar presence in the world of otaku, Hypnosis Mic brought fans down a different path with its unusual combination of rap and popular voice acting talents.

Basically, it’s a music idol group of Voice Actors that are mostly fronted by their animated alter-ego. Check out their debut song below!

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”

“The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.”

” The real world is much smaller than the imaginary.”

I had a lot of fun partaking in the shoot and I’m thankful to all the cosplayers for being so fun and obliging. Things got a lot harder once the sun went down because my external flash (camera flash and speedlite) had died and I had to rely on a small LED light tube (aka my table lamp) that power up via USB.

Here’s a collage of my ‘fancy’ light set up xD.

Even though the diffuser is store bought and looks really decent, I was still really apprehensive about this since it’s so ghetto. I also wasn’t sure if the light would be strong enough to make a difference but it did!

Here’s a fun Behind-The-Scene shot of our amazing Saikang Warriors (Assistants) in action. What will we do without them???

I hope you had fun reading and looking at the photographs as much as I had fun taking them. I’m still quite new to Cosplay photography and there’s so much more to learn but leave me a comment and tell me what you think!
