Anime Review: Servant x Service

ServantxService - Cover 2

Romance, a slice of life, and pure hearted comedy, welcome to Servant x Service!

Synopsis

The story revolves around a couple of individuals stationed at a certain government office in the centre of a fictional city. (Seriously that’s all)

Shall I introduce them?

Characters

ServantxService - Hasabe

Yutaka Hasebe, your general slacker in the office, doing nothing much except lazing around in hidden blind spots of the building where the manager is unable to catch them. Hasabe, however slack he is, does any of his tasks perfectly well.

ServantxService - Miyoshi

Saya Miyoshi, A young, fresh college graduate who has just joined as a civil servant. Soft-spoken and quiet, she often sits at the reception desk listening to a Mrs Tanaka (Obaa-san) for days on end. However quiet she is, she keeps most of her thoughts to herself. However, when she does make remarks, they are often very degrading, depressing or harsh and painful.

ServantxService - Chihaya

Megumi Chihaya, a temp employee who is rather serious and reliable as an individual, and is a closet cosplayer. She attends cosplay events dressed as Gerbera Pink, one of the characters of a certain fictional anime series. She has a certain hatred for Hasabe, and dates Ichimiya-san, a hidden secret between colleagues and Ichimiya’s sister.

ServantxService - Ichimiya

Taishi Ichimiya, the supervisor in the office, and is in-charge of everyone else, although it doesn’t look that way. His kind and approachable attitude makes him vunerable to people, mostly  his sister (Toko-chan)  and his girlfriend (Chihaya-san). Probably the most dense of all characters, especially as a boyfriend (makes me facepalm every time).

ServantxService - Girlfriend 2

Toko-chan (Left)

T?ko Ichimiya, Taishi’s tsudere (Model Tsundere) sister, who is very noisy during the show. Having nothing better to do as a middle-schooler, she HANGS AROUND the government office and complains at Saya-chan about them being inefficient in their operations and etc. She is very controlling of her brother, and to me, a general pain in the ass to the employees.

Kenzo Momoi, the section chief of the entire office. He is introduced as a RABBIT.

O

G

A rabbit. This show gets weirder and weirder. Because of his personality, he does not report to work and in his stead, comes as a stuffed robotic rabbit programmed by his daughter. A section chief who does not act like a chief at all…

And I thought that was weird, until I met the main protagonist, of which her name is Yamagami Lucy Kimiko Akie Airi Shiori Rinne Yoshiho Ayano Tomika Chitose Sanae Mikiko Ichika……

ServantxService - Throwing Stuff

Yea. A very very UNBELIEVABLE LONG NAME. I thought the other characters were weird enough, but the name of the main protagonist really takes the cake. And why? The reason why she’s here in the first place, to find the accursed civil servant who accepted her official name.

And with the best/worst casting for the entire season, this show is just asking for a ton of laughter. And that’s exactly what it gives you.

Servant x Service is a show I can say is one of the most hilarious comedies I have ever encountered before. The jokes and gags are straight and direct, and easy to relate to and understand, compared to complicated ones which I sometimes don’t get (Because I’m not Japanese / Play on words or something). There is not really much plot at all (Main character if full of plot / If you know what I mean). It’s more of the carefree and comedic nature of the show that makes it enjoyable to watch, much like the Working!! The daily happenings of the government office. The surprises and light romance adds a bit of excitement on the “slice of life” title. You’d wish it wasn’t just a mere 13 episodes long.

ServantxService - Block

I won’t spoil the jokes for you because the content is really original and funny. It’s lightheartedness and vivid colours make boring and normal office matters a hilarious laugh. It’s for you if you had a hard day at work, and just want to release the stress you have.
