Anime Review: Infinite Stratos II (S2)

IS2 - Shielf Energy v2

Good day readers,

And with the restarting of WWHCurrent, I’d like to bring your attention to an anime which ended a season back, Infinite Stratos II!

To be honest I almost couldn’t believe it when they announced that they were coming up with a new season. After seeing the first one, which was packed with… ECCHI, ECCHI and more ECCHI.

So to those who aren’t aware of the setting. It’s about this guy called Orimura Ichika, your standard teenager, who has a very talented gift. That of being able to pilot an “Infinite Stratos”, a powerful superweapon in the form of a robotic suit. Such suits are meant to be manned by women only, due to a cognitive skill set that men do not posses (WOW PERFECT SETUP)

IS2 - 5 Heroines

Because of that, Orimura lands himself in IS Academy, an island retreat for training women how to use their ISes. (Pisses me off). And the story goes on from there. (10{9ce92d51dcb98f8633190a8b9cb0ab401ce0a6841d2e16892913b6986e57eb6b} of the time)

In season 2, we see the introduction of a new character, M. After stealing one of the most advanced IS ever made, the number of attacks against IS academy become greater and greater. As the level of danger increases, Ichika gains the courage to fight the looming nemesis which threatens the safety of his fellow comrades (AHEM Girlfriends)

THOUGHTS

In all honesty, apart from the usual sex-crazed, hormone-filled scenes that IS is famous for, I for one COULD NOT BELIEVE IT when they went ahead and introduced ANOTHER 2 heroines. Like the producers didn’t sit there and think, hmm… I think having 5 heroines is enough. 7? Great. By introducing the twins I could feel that certain characters were like, indirectly “cut off”.

Still, the characters they added were GOOD. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenes with Tatenashi Sarashiki (If you know what I mean). They made her so OP that the original 5 didn’t stand a chance. She was so bold my nose bled a bit, and in my perspective trained Ichika better than any of the original 5 (without all the BS)

Sarashiki Sisters

Plot was like a typical good-guy bad-guy scenario, with the IS Academy vs Phantom Task, bent on creating a level of terror with the stolen IS technology, hitting hard at Ichika’s closest family.

IS2 - Ichika Lying IS2 - Ichika x Houki IS2 - No Pun Intended

I was a bit pissed off at the way some of the “drama” scenes, of which certain characters were “killed” so as to say. Out of energy, bleeding to death, and on the brink of death, the only way the producers could have passed off the scene as “Dramatic” would be to write off the character at such a stage, but OH NO, she waked up from a comatose just a day later from her survivable “injuries”. Of course I could understand, in such a shoujo / fan-service anime, one does not simply write off a main-heroine just like that, but it was SO OBVIOUS that the scene could only pass off if he/she died.

Why watch IS II? Well. I guess mainly for the well-animated action scenes. It has its own original style in that sense. Besides that, very enjoyable if you are those forever-alone guys, of which you want to keep things interesting. This show was MADE for ECCHI. The way season 2 was set up was also so obvious that they were going to need a third season. Other reasons for watching it would be that you followed the first season and wanted to follow the story, whatever story it had.

Ugh. End of review.
